Embryo morphological indicators (visual embryo assessment by cell count and size and fragmentation amount in an embryo), as well as embryo kinetics (the rate of embryo development – the rate of cell division during a given time), which is estimated using specific algorithms, are taken into account when assessing embryo quality. It has been scientifically proven that embryo kinetics may indicate their genetic quality, so we compared embryo assessment algorithms with the results of genetic testing.
The comparative analysis included 468 biopted and genetically analyzed embryos, which have undergone PGT-A (Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy or PGS – Preimplantation Genetic Screening).
The results obtained indicate that neither EmbryoScope Basic algorithm nor KIDScore algorithm can replace genetic testing, but they are an important additional evaluation criterion at the time of embryo selection, since they help to decide, which embryos to choose for the transfer; to perform a biopsy at the right time and then check for genetic abnormalities (PGT).
