Fructose test

Fructose is a source of energy that contributes to the movement of sperm cells, promotes their emergence and development and supports their mobility and vitality. Fructose is produced in the seminal vesicles under the influence of androgens (male sex hormones) and from there it gets into sperm. Abnormalities in the structure and the amount of hormones or functional disorders of the seminal vesicles lead to reduced levels of fructose. Fructose may be completely absent from the semen in some congenital cases.

Fructose test is indicated:

  • to determine the causes of azoospermia
  • to examine the secretory function of the seminal vesicles
