What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture, otherwise known as needle therapy, is one of the oldest treatment methods, the beginnings of which can be traced back to 2500 BC. According to Chinese medical theory, acupuncture harmonizes and balances energy flow in the human body by stimulating points located on the surface of the skin with the help of a thin, steel needle. Stimulation of each point has a different effect.
Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture is not considered to be painful, as needles used for the procedure are extremely thin (0.12 – 0.3 mm in diameter). The needles are made from gold, silver and other precious metal alloys. An acupuncturist uses a separate disposable needle set for each session. Patients usually describe acupuncture as a particularly relaxing procedure. The procedure can last from several minutes up to an hour, and, depending on the patient’s diagnosis, the therapy course consists from 3-10 procedures.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is a safe procedure, which is carried out by a certified acupuncturist. The risk of side effects is very low. Needle therapy is considered to be a healthier and more natural alternative to medication. It affects each and every part of the body, boosts immunity and improves general health condition. During the therapy course, the patients are advised to avoid undersleeping, burnout and alcohol.

Acupuncture is a very individual process – from the patient’s position during the session to the length of the needle used. The depth, angle and speed of needle insertion can also vary. The appropriate insertion method is chosen based on the patient’s age and build, after the acupuncturist has determined the necessary points for stimulation.
During the procedure, the acupuncturist can use warming and heating methods. Heating is carried out with the help of a moxa stick or particular cones filled with moxa, which differently affect the stimulated places.
